I love to travel – who doesn’t? But I’m not retired, self-employed, independently wealthy, or European. I’m not offered buckets of vacation time – I get 10 days a year. The only thing I have going for me is I work in higher education, and we’re given additional recess days between Christmas and New Year’s. I like the stability and benefits that come with a 9 to 5 job, so I’m not going to be skipping out on “Corporate America” to sell pay-per-click advertising from a beach in Thailand any time soon.
Instead I make do with what I have, and that’s why I’m starting this blog. I get the feeling that most people who want to travel aren’t ready to jump into a year-long, round-the-world backpacking adventure, aren’t planning on quitting their day jobs to travel nonstop across every continent, and probably don’t have more than 1 to 2 weeks of vacation per year.
